Titel: Affective design to reduce aggressive driving
Bakgrund
The aim of this project was to investigate whether it is possible to design a vehicle interior environment that communicates with the driver on a subconscious level to relax him/her. A calmer driver should react less aggressively towards other road users.
It has been a long process with background research and benchmarking, user studies, concept development and finally physical evaluation with drivers.
Now, you are welcome to see the results!

Adjusted-ECOM – An in-the-loop measurement model used for highly automated road vehicles
abstract
Methods for how to keep the driver in-the-loop in highly automated vehicles is a research area that gets more and more attention while cars, trucks etc. are evolving to more complex vehicles that can operate on a higher level of automation. However a generally accepted and used measuring and validating method to determine whether a driver is in- or out-of-the-loop is not developed yet. The purpose of this thesis was to propose a theoretical model, with the aim to provide a structured way to test and analyze in-the-loop concepts. This model is called Adjusted-ECOM.
The benefits of the Adjusted-ECOM have been proven with help of a truck simulator study where the participants were professional truck drivers. The Adjusted-ECOM was able to specify when and why the participants were out-of-the-loop by referring to the specific tasks according to the Adjusted-ECOMs different control layers.
The thesis work also reveals a concept function, called the Armed State which provides a safer and easier way of transition between different levels of automation. It does this by helping the Driver-Vehicle System to stay in-the-loop in the higher control-layers of the Adjusted-ECOM. The concept alters the relation between human and machine by converting the regular one-way communication into a two-way communication.

Titel: Conceptual design of a body interface for detection of traumatic internal injuries
Sammanfattning
In Sweden alone there are annually approximately 30,000 stroke cases and 8,500 cases of traumatic injuries to the head. For traumatic injuries to the chest there are around 1,000 cases yearly. Finding a solution to accurately and quickly diagnose these injuries can be lifesaving.
Medfield Diagnostics AB has developed a technology which can scan a patient for both strokes and traumatic injuries. To this technology they have created a device to be used in hospitals and that is now undergoing rigorous testing. However, the company is aiming to expand the field of use to the prehospital area too and is therefore testing the possibilities regarding that.
In this master thesis the goal was to create two concepts for prehospital use which utilizes the technology developed by Medfield Diagnostics AB. One concept is intended for traumatic injuries to the head while the other concept is adapted for traumatic injuries to the chest. A major part of this master project has been a co-design process, involving users and experts, to ensure the usability of the product.

Title
Development of adherence solution for Swedish home care
Abstract
Following medical prescriptions is a global challenge, which would have a greater impact on health rather than any other potential discovery in medicine. However, statistics show that only 50 % are adherent to prescriptions. In Sweden, over 24 billion SEK per year to cover the costs caused by incorrect use. While prescription drugs using is increasing especially for the people who live in special elderly housing and more extensively for people who are living in their own house with multiple diseases.
The project aimed to develop an medication adherence supporting solution which could help to improve medication adherence for Swedish home care system. It is a cross-cultural project in collaboration with Mevia which focus on providing intelligent solutions to increase the quality of medical treatments.
Initial knowledge base creating and theoretical study were carried out for providing the master student useful and important information about the Swedish home care, medication adherence, etc. Furthermore, a field study were planed and executed by following the process of contextual design and co-design which are the main methodology applied in this project. All collected data was analysed for concluding user requirements and design specifications for further product development.
The final solution is a physical pill-dispenser together with an online application as the outcome of the project. The physical pill-dispenser is developed based on current product in Mevia that aims at supporting medication adherence for the elderly people who live in Swedish home care system. While the application is a completely new invention which assuring the novelty of the project, but realisable by the Mevia with relatively technology. But, further iterations and evaluations are necessary in the work future.

ABSTRACT
As cities are growing and technology is developing, the needs and the possibilities for new ways of mobility becomes possible. This report aims at creating an understanding for what the future may bring and in what ways this will affect the users of cars. By analysing the situation of today in a vast amount of use cases, the report provides necessary inputs for understanding future use cases. The approach for the research has been of a lean nature which means that flexibility in both aim and methodology is important. This has given relatively much inputs within the available time span.
The work has been dividen in two main phases; the first phase focuses on fundamental knowledge and optimising the goal. This was necessary as the designing of car access and usage is such a complex area. One outcome of phase one was therefore an understanding that the experience and perception of safety and personal integrity needs to be analysed before starting with product design or finding the optimal set of specific functions.
Phase two consisted of deep use case studies as well interviews with both expert within the design field as well as additional research such as visiting workshops, car dealers, etcetera.
The results in such a research project is mostly a discussion part as it is hard to conclude beyond qualitative hypotheses. In short terms, there is alot going on in the way we look at mobility in the near few years ahead and forecasts of shared and even autonomous vehicles seem reliable. Users tend to prioritise personalisation functionalities before data privacy as long as the control of the data stays with the user. Also, the feeling of control comes from proper feedback at the right time, rather than carrying out tasks manually. The word control is really the key in an important environment as car usage.
The goal was to provide designers and product managers within OEMs with a user study based report on real use cases of today and an analysis of the future potential use patterns.

Mass rescue at sea – development of a system for recovery to nearby ships
The objective of the project was to create a scalable solution that enables all suitable ships to efficiently aid in mass rescue operations at sea, by recovering people in distress from survival crafts to safety on board. Today people in distress normally have to climb ladders up the side of a ship or are lifted on at a time with helicopters. Both these solutions are time consuming, exhausting, and often dangerous.
In cooperation with the Swedish Sea Rescue Society a Marine Evacuation & Recovery System have been developed, building on a tested concept of using liftable liferafts.

Design and Development of the User Interface of TrailAdvise -
The new digital service that facilitates exploration of the nature
Presentation examensarbete - Minna Kristiansson
Titel: Design and Development of the User Interface of TrailAdvise -
The new digital service that facilitates exploration of the nature
Sammanfattning
This project is a part of a bigger project that is managed by Innomate, a company that are running internal product development but also provides project management consulting services to external customers. Innomate have identified the need of something new that can be used when wanting to explore the outdoors, something more modern than physical maps. Innomate are therefore running a project that aims at making footpaths and hiking trails more accessible by creating a digital service where the user can find trails and paths that suits their needs with a mobile phone or computer.
The purpose of this project is to create a conceptual user interface for this new service that should be available on the web and as an application on smartphone and smartwatch. The focus will be on identifying the intended users needs and to conclude what functions and information that should be available and how to priorities these in order to provide an attractive service.
The most important information gathering was regarding the different intended users needs. Two target groups was identified and investigated, namely runners and hikers. It was found that their basic needs are much alike so they could benefit from using the same service as long as the service focuses on experience and not performance. Something that was found to be important in order to make the service differentiable as well. The main difference between the runners and hikers was that the hikers usually want to hike to some special place where as runner are only interested in finding a trail that fits their current needs.
Due to the increased phone application fatigue and decreased adoption rates it was concluded that it was important for the service to communicate its functionality, provide important information and functionality and be easy to understand and use.
The result of the project include conceptual wireframes of the user interface for the different devices. The conceptual interface allows the user to search for trail and places in the nature as well as provides them with important information about them. The user can also get navigation help when wanting to explore a new trail or place. The service grows by users adding their own places and trails so the service makes it possible to track and add trails and places as well. In order to motivate people to contribute to the service some elements of social rewards has been included such as that a user that adds a trails gets to know when someone rates, comments or saves that trail.
The final conceptual interface for the new service provides the users with the most important information when wanting to explore a new trail or place in the nature. The most important functions is also easy and fast for people to use. The users get variable result when they upload a trail or a place in the form of ratings, comments, questions and amount of savings which will create a sense of social acceptance for the publisher. Something that will motivate and trigger the users to contribute to the service which is crucial for its success.
