Presentation examensarbete - Hans Iverlund och Alexander Larsson Titel: Mobile 3D Traffic Measurement - Stakeholder mapping and design of a new housing solution Sammanfattning Increasing number of urban citizens together with the need for sustainable travel put new demands on modern city planning. Bicycles, pedestrians and public transportation are essential elements that require smart methods for measurement and analysis. The technique of 3D vision video analysis gives new possibilities that could take traffic measuring and study of people’s behavior to the next level. The aim of the project was to explore the opportunities for this new technique and to develop a mobile housing and mounting solution for the equipment. Through stakeholder mapping and interviews, competitor analyses and literature studies, a framework for the design work was created. Possible scenarios for 3D video analysis were identified and important aspects for use and mobility were defined. The visual expression of traffic measuring equipment using video technology was evaluated and the aspects of integrity analyzed. Ergonomic and semantic aspects of the product were other key issues in the development process. The final concept is a flexible, robust and professional housing with a modular mounting solution. The product combines form and function with the appropriate expression from different stakeholder views. It fulfills the requirements for the shorter mobile measurements that were identified in the project. Presentation examensarbete - Tobias Olsson och Samuel Lunde Titel: Development of stroke diagnostic device - With focus on usability and visual brand identity Sammanfattning Stroke is the second most common cause of death worldwide. In Sweden alone it costs billions of SEK yearly in addition to the personal suffering it causes. Medfield Diagnostics are currently developing a stroke detection unit which will reduce the time to treatment for stroke patients, thus reducing suffering and cost. This master thesis will focus on the further development of this stroke detection unit in terms of usability and expression in order for it to be used by paramedics within and outside of the ambulance. The development of the stroke diagnostics unit has been an iterative process following an industrial design engineering process. It started with a thorough background study of stroke, stroke treatment and anthropometric data. This was followed by user studies where several paramedics from different counties and other stakeholders were interviewed and observed in order to explore the needs set by the user and the environment where the unit should be used. Four concepts were generated and evaluated from a use perspective by revisits to the paramedics and from a technical perspective by the staff at Medfield Diagnostics. The final concept was refined in a form study, function tested in mock-ups and visualized in a final CAD model. The final concept is designed to work for a vast majority of the Swedish population in terms of anthropometrics. It consists of eight antennas placed on the head that are adjusted to the patient with three adjustments wheels and is constructed with consideration to the manufacturing. The product expression is that of a robust and professional medical device which reflects Medfield Diagnostics brand values. It has clearly marked interaction areas which enable an intuitive usage and the large and sturdy handle makes it easy to handle and carry. The product has been designed to work in any of the rough environments where the paramedics operate and considerations have been taken in order to fit it into an ambulance. The result of this thesis is an intuitive product which if implemented into ambulances has the potential to save both lives and money by reducing the time to treatment for stroke patients. It also works as a guideline for the design of future Medfield Diagnostics products in terms of brand expression. Presentation examensarbete - Anna Lindahl och Elina Lindqvist Titel: Development of a product concept for urban farming in shared greenhouses Sammanfattning This Master’s thesis describes the process and outcome of a product development project that concerns a growing container for cultivation in community-shared greenhouses. The project was carried out at Chalmers University of Technology by Elina Lindqvist and Anna Lindahl, master students at the programme Industrial Design Engineering. Growing vegetables in cities is a global trend, and shared greenhouses are increasingly common in urban areas. The purpose of shared greenhouses is both to enable cultivation, and to serve as social meeting places that create a feeling of community and identity among neighbours. Research shows that there are many positive effects from the existence of strong local communities; it reduces crime, increases the feeling of safety, builds a sense of belonging and identity, and a strong support network can actually improve people’s health. Moreover, with a basis in an unsustainable food system, with increasing demands for food production and at least 75 % of our food’s biodiversity being lost due to industrialised agriculture, the visionary aim of this project was to encourage and contribute to social and environmental sustainability and to promote more sustainable attitudes towards food. The goal was therefore to develop a product for growing vegetables in a shared greenhouse, intended for housing associations in the city. Characteristics of the intended user group and use context were investigated through a variety of data collection methods, including interviews, observations and questionnaires. The collected information was organised and analysed, and subsequently translated into requirements and guidelines for further development. The end result was a flexible and accessible growing container that fits into the greenhouse environment and enables everyone to take part in the activity of cultivation. The growing container allows the user to work in an ergonomic height, is soil efficient and easy to empty. It provides seating possibilities to encourage socialising in the greenhouse, and is movable to suit different needs and greenhouse layouts. In Sweden there are 200 000 users of personal social alarms, a device that enables the user to get in contact with carers. Since the alarm only functions within the home the user is unable to leave without risking their safety. Outside the user has to rely on emergency services, but as these only respond to emergencies they are not available during all situations. At the same time there are 9,5 million people living in Sweden, of which many are willing to give a helping hand. From this the idea of Landräddningen, ‘Land Rescue’, was created by Posifon AB. Through volunteers that are located close to where help is needed there is a possibility for everyone to take part in the life outside of their front doors. The aim of this project was to make it possible for everyone to take part in society while feeling safe, confident and in control, achieved through the development of user interfaces that enables persons in need to request and receive assistance. The goal was to develop concepts of the user interface that meet the requirements. This included the interface used by the alarm user, the volunteer and the call centre operator, who answers to the alarm and forwards the alarm to the volunteer or other suitable function. Through interviews with experts and analysis of how similar non-profit organisations operate, overall requirements on Landräddningen were identified. Potential alarm users and the situations when these may require help were found. Thereafter potential alarm users, call centre operators and volunteers were interviewed. It was recognised that the alarm user needs to be able to easily alarm and to be given continuous information on their alarm. The volunteer wants to help when they are needed and to be well informed of the help they are asked to provide. The call centre operator requires an interface that promotes that necessary information is retrieved during interview, that help is distributed quickly and quick assessment of current alarm status. Initial ideation generated multiple ideas to the problems that had been identified. This evoked an analysis that revealed the problems that were more important to attend to, which were securing that alarms can be activated, notifying the volunteer when help is needed and motivating help.  During the development of the call centre interface a reference was used. Potential usability problems were identified, which formed the basis for three concepts that were evaluated with operators. As a result, opportunities for improvement, both on Landräddningen in its whole and on the user interface, were found. Parallel to this, the user interface to a smartphone application that is used by the alarm user and the volunteer was developed. Based on identified requirements an initial design was established. Usability of the application was evaluated through user tests, which revealed an intuitive interface with opportunities for improvement. Feedback to the alarm user was assessed. Motivation to assist during an alarm and expression of the user interface were investigated in a survey. After analysis, implications for a final concept were found. The final smartphone application concept provides an opportunity for everyone to take part in the society while feeling safe, confident and in control.
